Madhuparna directs her own teaching institute called Madhuparna Kumar Dance Research Academy specializing in Bharatnatyam instruction. The pedagogical system closely follows the teaching practices at Nalanda Dance Research Academy, of which Madhuparna is a distinguished alumnus.

Her dance and dance instruction incorporates elements of three styles or schools:

Kalakshetra style under the guidance of Guru Subhajit Dutta. This style was originally developed by Padma Bhushan Rukmini Devi Arundale as a simplified form of the Pandanallur style/school.

Kalamandalam style under the guidance of Guru Thankomuni Kutti. This style was developed in Kerala and incorporates influences from Mohiniattam (‘Enchantress’s Dance’) in which Madhuparna is also trained in.

Nalanda’s homegrown style under the guidance of Guru Dr. Kanak Rele and Guru Saaji Nair. Madhuparna emphasizes Abhinaya (facial expressions) and mudras (symbolic hand gestures) and bhangis (basic body poses) in her dance and in her instruction. She also has training in Classical Music, and this enables her to express her musicality more effectively via the medium of dance.
